Well I took the plunge and joined an on-line dating website. The first day I received a message from a guy named Jason. We messaged back and forth several times and then decided to exchange IM info. We taked over IM for a week or so and decided to chat over the phone. After a couple weeks her asked me out. I agreed and we set a date.
We agreed to meet at a public place and take his car to dinner then to his house to watch his movie. His favorite movie is "The Godfather" and I have never seen it. (don't worry Amy had all his info) He met me at a CVS in Plano and headed to dinner. On the phone he has asked me to wear a button down shirt, skirt, have my hair down and curly and no make-up. Well I really am not one to follow directions. I showed up in a nice blouse, jeans, cowboys boots, straightened hair and yep I had make-up on. As soon as we got into the car he mentioned that I was not wearing what he had asked me to and I replied that I was much more comfortable in the clothes i was wearing. Soon after that I learned his name was not Jason but he used the name Jason on-line. He commented that he was not very hungry because he had met a friend for appetizers while waiting for me to get off work. His appetizer was a steak and baked potato. Really?? Well I had worked through lunch so I was starving!! He mentioned that we get take out and eat while watching the movie that he had now changed to "Inglorious Bastards." I was thinking Chinese maybe a pizza... nope his idea was to pull through McDonalds for us to share, yes I said share, a 10 piece chicken nugget meal. However, he would by me my own drink because I did not want to share his orange drink. I almost said take me back to my car but I thought I should give the guy a chance. Why??? I am still trying to figuere out the answer to that question.
We pulled up to his mega-house, huge and beautiful and went inside. We had dicussed that I did not drink often and he said he did not either. What a suprise to walk in and find more empty beer cans, beer bottles and boxes all over the kitchen and dining room. We sat on the floor at the coffee table to share our 10 nuggets. I looked at the entertainment center that had to have cost him thousands of dollars and could barely contain my laughter. It was covered in bobble heads. Lots and lots of bobble heads. Big ones and small ones. Everything from George Bush to Star Wars. Wizard of Oz to baseball players. I could not believe that there were that many different kinds made.
After dinner was over (all of the 5 minutes it took me to eat my 3 nuggets) we decided to start the movie. I had not even heard of it. I got up on the couch to watch the movie as he played with the entertainment system. Finally the movie started. I am getting into the movie as he is sitting on the floor playing with his laptop. The movie was probably half way over when he decided that he was tired and turned off the television. Let me say that him driving up to my car was one of the happiest moments of the year.
So am I now jaded by my first date after 17 years? Not at all. I have made more people laugh at my misfortune. Plus I get to look at it this way... I have no where to go but up!
